Kathleen Battle suffers from the same psychosis. The comments of
Roberto Alagna after his ridiculous departure from La Scala's Aida
show that he is also unable to perceive reality and his place in the
world of opera. His statements defending his actions were
contradictory and absurd. To help these people get well and learn how
to function in the real world, opera companies must deal firmly and
fairly with their antics as soon as they start. If this were done,
the Gheorghius and Alagnas would either become responsible, reliable
artists, or be forced to choose some other profession.

Just so! Elaine Alvarez sang the 'Mimi' to Aronica's 'Rudolfo'...and
at the dress rehearsal it was simply fabulous. Aronica sang like a
god...and Alvarez brought a real charicterization to her role. Now
that I've heard them both in the theater...I'll take Alvarez. She
looked great and sounded marvelous. In fact the entire ensemble was
excellent...as anyone will hear...who listens to this Monday's opening
broadcast. Oct 1, 2007 at 7 PM...WFMT.
