Yes Dave...I think it works in separate ways..
1. I hear some music, like it, and my curiosity is peaked..and so THEN I
read more about it.
2. I hear some music and feel i "do not get it but perhaps I should"
and try to read and listen more....and perhaps it will grow on me.
3. I hear music that is "complicated' (Mahler) and i know that the
composer has had a tough life...and i want to know more of how his own
experience can inspire some of his music.
4. I just want to learn about it ALL....even music that i have said
does not 'grab' me...I still cannot appreciate most music before Mozart
and chamber music does nothing for me..but I still delve into it and
try to keep my mind open..after all,it is not some fluke that it is
appreciated.
