Just read his website. I'm shocked to discover that Peter's over 60
now and has Parkinson's. I always think of him as the handsome blonde
Siegmund on the DVD from Bayreuth (1982-ish???) - he looked so young
then!
That was the first opera I ever saw - when it was shown on BBC2. Even
though I was only 9 years old at the time and didn't understand a word
of German back then I became totally addicted to Wagner. He was the
first Siegmund I ever saw and has remained my favourite (though Domingo
was bloody good the other night!) - I loved his voice and he looked the
part too - so blonde and teutonic, how I imagined one of the Wälsungen
should look like.
