If you're after something with a bit more mental meat on which to chew,
please consider tracking down the Patrice Chereau-directed 1976
Bayreuth Ring, conducted by Pierre Boulez. The costumes, sets and
stagings are thought-provoking in the manner in which they place
various historical eras and political concepts before the viewer, the
conducting is quite a bit livelier, and the cast a bit stronger as
actors - and a good deal better-looking.- Hide quoted text -

Yup...that's the other one I own...and it, too, is a winner. But I
still prefer the naturalistic approach to opera...Wagner in
particular...and still prefer the Met's production to this thought
provoking one.
