Carlos Saura - Flemenco films

When I was a Freshman in High School...many, many years ago...a friend
and I went to Chicago's Navy Pier for an exhibition of some sort. At
the end of the pier...on that particular day...they had a free show of
Jose Greco and his Troupe performing Flemenco. We saw the show and
I've been a great fan of this Spanish artform ever since.
Some decades later...while singing in the chorus with the Lyric Opera
of Chicago...we did a new production of 'Carmen' which had a Flemenco
group open the second act in Lilas Pastia's club. It was the Antonio
Gades Flamenco Troupe...and it stopped the show each night. The
opening 'Sequidilla' was sung while the dancers did their
thing...ending with Gades himself leaping onto a huge table center
stage and dancing like a Flemenco maniac! It was terrific!!!
Some years later...the Spanish director Carlos Saura...started a
series of films based upon that art form. The film was 'the Flamenco
Carmen'...and it was and is...stunning to say the very least. He's
done a number of films since...one of which is based on the music of
Manuel de Falla's music for 'El Amor Brujo'...which I believe means
'Love of the Magician'. I've seen bits of it...but no direct American
place to by a copy on DVD...nor the 'Flamenco Carmen' for that matter.
I'm somewhat afraid to buy from European stores for fear of 'Regional'
incompatibilties. Anyone know of a place which won't cost me the left
half of my privates along with a 2nd mortgage? I haven't had much
luck with any of the search engines...and Amazon either shows
Europe...or very costly copies.
If you haven't seen either of these films...do yourself a huge favor
and check them out. They are Spectacular and the music is astonishing
when set in Flamenco artform.
