PLANET EARTH

Our resident Gummy (PBS: Poodle Bottom Sniffer) sent me four hours of
the program. Having already watched The Miracle Worker many times, I
immediately went through these. I have never seen nature programs
like it. Featuring views of land from outerspace, gorgeous panoramic
landscape photography, and of course damn unique captures of animals
in the wild. The Emperor Penquins alone made me think that human
beings SUCK as parents.
But it was the underwater sequences that were like watching the
greatest CGI sci-fi film EVER. We have no idea about the life that
abounds on this planet. We have no idea that there is something more
than Paris Hilton, George Bush, and Anna Nicole Smith; something more
important. Animals that survive the harshest of climates in search of
simple survivial. For all our accomplishments- and I mean art,
technology doesn't count- we are the silliest of species. We
basically do what every other species on the planet does but we also
upset the balance of nature in the process. We aren't one with it. We
don't accept it.
The PBS also sent me a couple of discs of the music by George Fenton,
and I just started these (I'll have to take a break from watching
Scrubs for a while). I don't know if Cleo would enjoy it; though
nothing more than short thematic riffs, there is no one main theme.
Music for the visual moment... sometimes embroidered with human voice
(which seems odd, somehow). I do wonder where the track is for the
opening credit- the grand orchestral flourish with percussion and
chorus.
Neverthless, you cable TV people SHOULD be watching this series. It
is enriching and humbling at the same time. It introduced me to
creatures I never knew existed.
Much like the Internet.
Thank you greatly, Poodle Bottom Sniffer!
