Mine are now 34 and 27, respectively, and both came up through the Star
Wars era (the first Star Wars Era). They were taken to the movies a
lot and exposed to a lot of film music at home. I'm happy to say,
aside from my son's extended obsession with Metal of all kinds in the
mid to late '80s, it seemed to take with both of them.
I have never been prouder than when my daughter willingly accompanied
me to Santa Fe on the eve of my 50th birthday to see and hear Elmer
Bernstein conduct the symphony. Fred Steiner had brought Elmer in for
a one-time appearance, and my favorites (guess which two) were on the
program. It felt like a personal gift from EB to me. Happy birthday,
indeed.
