Seriously, I have noticed over the years that some of the best trumpet
players (eg Bobby Shew) and the most talented opera singers tend to be
morbidly obese. People have told me this is just a coincidence, but
that doesn't seem right. When your belly becomes very very large does
it somehow enhance breath power or what? There has to be some kind of
connection because the factors are linked so often.
If anything, I would attribute this to life style. Being on the road can be
rough on the belly. When you are on the road, it is easy to get into bad
habits like
drinking too much which can lead to eating too much and exercising too
little. I had a 3 month consulting job where I was required to travel every
other week. I started eating and drinking late in the evening which helped
me sleep but helped expand the gut. I changed my route to light early
dinner and working out in the hotel gym so I was plenty tired to sleep
without the help of alcohol. Check out Roger Ingram, he is still very fit.
