@y80g2000hsf.googlegroups.com:
For six hundred and some change you would do better to buy a used
Yamaha 631/731 or a used Getzen 4 valve.
Howdy
Easier said than done.
For the Yamaha, yes, i will agree with you , you will have to look
very hard to find a used one for under seven hundred dollars, but a
friend of mine did find one for sale used in that price range.
As for the Getzen, used 4 valve Getzen flugelhorns are being sold
(eBay)in the six hundred dollar price range all of the time.
Lately the Yamaha 631 has been jumping up in value , esp. the model
that I have which is thew one in rose brass which I have been suprised
to see sell lately on ebay start to go up in value and sell used for
over a grand. Other used flugelhorns to look at are the cousenon and
the benge, the Benge 5 is a great playing flugelhorn , sweet tone, but
it is not a good horn for people who are overly fussy about having to
have a flugelhorn with perfect intonation.
I think with your budget, the 4 valve Getzen in silver used is perhaps
the best way to go. The Getzen is a 460 bore, and the 4th valve allows
you to cover/double on some of the t bone parts.
