Thanks all for the reply, it's clear to me now
I'm sure my CPU is 'acceptable', sempron 2800 (or 3800) if not
mistaken
I don't even do any recording
I think I've made up my mind. Novation X Station 25 seems to be the
perfect choice.Hardware Synth, Controller, ASIO audio Interface,
Hardware Effects in one. Any thoughts?

hello, I have a computer with lousy built-in soundcard. There's
considerable latency when playing VSTi. I only hear audio 1 or 2
seconds after pressing my usb keyboard.
I don't do any recording, I just want to play some MIDIs and VSTi(s)
with my USB keyboard controller.
Do I need a better soundcard? What about those Edirol/EMU/MAudio USB
interface? Are those treated as another soundcard in WindowsXP? Will
it surely help bring down the latency? Or it's not a factor that
causes the latency?
I would avoid the Emu soundcards... they are now part of Creative Labs and
there's been quite a lot of bad news about Creative shipping their
SoundBlaster cards with deliberately crippled drivers and hinky Vista
implementation.
