I'm basically thinking of writing one myself now (as you probably
guessed) so if you've got any suggestion on requirements etc it would
be useful to me. Or perhaps problems you may have come across?

it was long ago, but one thing I remember was that you need to do some extra
work to ensure that the multi-patches remain the same when you start moving
around or even replacing single patches.

Mm - yes. The Multi patches are an interesting one. I wasn't sure
about what to do with that.

Other than that, I seem to remember that it was fairly straightforward,
and fun to do. With modern programming tools, it is something that you
could probably put together rather quickly, probably quicker
while having more fun than trying to reverse engineer 20 year old code of
somebody else ;-)

This is probably true. It turns out that someone in the organisation I
work with has written one for a Yamaha EX5 in Java. I'm on a UML
course at the moment and the instructor has suggested having a play
with Java to try to get a handle on some of the interesting concepts
he's put forward, so I might give it a go in Java instead of C++ which
is what I was thinking of using.

BTW I still have some K1 patches around on my harddisk somewhere - no idea
what they are and there's no way for me to find out now. If you are
interested please let me know.

Yes, definitely, that would be great. I downloaded a set of patches
from somewher, possibly the Kawai website, and I haven't got all the
way through them yet, but I would definitely be interested in other
ones. Please feel free to email them to me. You just need to take out
the "nospam." and ".nospam" in my email address.

All the best.
John
