i was kind of thinking along those lines too, Dave...

there have been a lot of times i can think of when my accordions
took a hard knock... i mean, gig's take a toll...
i can't imagine how painful it would be to play with
a chipped glass button, or glass granules in the
cloth inside my Accordion case coming out at the worst
possible time to screw something up or scratching me

Well, as I said: there are ways to make glass rather hardy (like done
with pinball machine panes).

But it is probably a bad idea to even think about this: if somebody
comes up with durable glass buttons and starts a trend, it is only a
matter of time until the market is flooded with Chinese glass buttons
made from plain glass...

Speaking of buttons though, i still have that bass section off an
antique Galizi and Bro. New York that i think are real Ivory, or at
least Bone of some kind, but i'm not expert enough to know
which... they look cool, but are brittle now i'm sure, as they've
shrunk some and have craze lines

Probably cow bones...
