Ike, I completely agree with you. I went back and re-read what I had
posted on this, which was:

I think perhaps I muddied the water, without quite making the point I
wanted to make, which is this: Retuning a CBA to sound like a
Diatonic Button Box might get you pretty close, particularly with
respect to the question of how wet the musette sound is, but it won't
duplicate the exact sound *if* the DBB has been tuned to a Just
Intonation. I agree with you that the CBA, or PA, should not be tuned
to a different temperament than ET, since they are intended to be
playable in all 12 keys.

Or, to put it more directly for Gino, if that Gabbanelli he likes has
been tuned to a Just Intonation (which it may have been since it is
only playable in 3 keys), his Hohner CBA will not be able to be tuned
to sound *exactly* like the Gabbanelli. This is why I recommended he
talk to the folks at Gabbanelli. They should know whether the
accordions they're selling have been tuned to Just Intonation or Equal
Temperament.

And another point, A CBA can never be played to sound exactly like a DBB,
regardless of the tuning. The individual notes can sound the same, but there
is no technique that can make the music the same. As for ET, there are
tuninhg schemes that are not exactly ET but close enough to it, that you
acan play in all keys and still probably not notice much difference. There
is alsoWell Temperament, which can be played in all keys, but not in all
keys be compatible in ensemble playing with an instrument tuned closely to

Ive been a member of the Reyes forum for almost a year already an I
have visited the Gabbenelli shop in Houston, most people on the Reyes
Forum say that the Gabbys are not made the way they used to be so I
think I may just have to stick to the mussete tunning.
1 question?? how many different mussetes are there? Is French Mussete
an the same as just Mussete???
