The reason I don't easily get it, is that the text of the message that you are replying to isn't quoted in your reply. Most newsreaders automatically post the text of the message you are replying to. For some reason a lot of newbies to the group are posting messages that aren't quoting the previous text. It isn't always convenient to sort the view of the message headers by thread trees. And even if it were in a tree, when I click on the message to open it, the previous message text won't show unless whoever posted it included it. Maybe in Google groups, the message bodies are already expanded, but in most newreader software, like Outlook Express, or Mozilla Thunderbird the messages themselves only show the text when you click on the headers. When I post a reply to a message, the previous message text is automatically included in the text of the reply, unless I delete some of it as not necessary to understnding the reply, in order to save space and time for the reader of my reply. I could set the properties of my newsreader to not include or quote the previous message text, but the default setting is to include it.
