Good Christian
*****************

I have come here to criticize you

<etc>

Your next task, should you choose to accept it, is to write similar
satires about other belief systems (e.g. Islam, Judaism, Buddhism,
atheism, astrology, and Manchester United). But I'm guessing you
won't dare.

Islam: satire too dangerous.

Precisely so.

Judaism: the Jews satirize themselves already. What could you do
that Henny Youngman, Woody Allen, Mel Brooks and those guys haven't
already done in spades?

And even if you managed it, you would be labelled anti-Semitic.

Buddhism: I'd like to see a satire of Buddhism. Form is emptiness,
emptiness is form; what satire can top that? The thing is, to
satirize something, you have to know that thing intimately. But most
people outside of Buddhism have such inaccurate ideas about what it
is. Still, I'd like to see someone have a go.

GEB probably counts.

Atheism: that would be like satirizing walking down the street.

Oh, it could be done, it could be done. I'm not planning on doing it,
you understand - but it could certainly be done.

Astrology: It's already absurd. How do you make a joke about
something that's already funny?

Terry Pratchett usually manages. Also, consider this caption from a
Punch cartoon (setting: TV news bulletin): "And, in other news,
astrology received a major credibility boost today when all 5 million
Librans in the UK were run over by an egg lorry."

Manchester United: see Islam.

Um, quite so.

The best thing about Antii's song is the schmaltzy setting.

Oh, you actually listened to it, did you? A reading of the lyrics did
not entice me to hear them sung.
