Opinions would of course be most welcome - if you like it :-)
I listened to "We'll get by" and noticed it's a .wav file, 5
megbytes for less than a two minute song. If you encode your
recordings to mp3 you can start with a 44.1k/16 bit stereo .wav file,
and get a good sounding 2 megabyte MP3 file. Now I see where you say
"(mono, 16bit, 16KHz .wav files: low-fi for dial-up connections)".
There are free mp3 encoders on the net, try one or two.
About "Home Soon" I agree with others, you have to add something
here to clear up what it's about. Perhaps make the title "The Widow"
or "The New Widow", or add a (extra) bridge, probably in a minor key,
that somehow brings up the fact of "his" death.
I'm far from an expert in this group, but I like what I see and
hear here. Knowing what it's about, the words are powerful, and they
sit on top of a simple, major-key, pretty-much 'in denial' melody.
Looking down a long, wide avenue
The world is in a rush and she has to move
But she needs time to think, she's so confused
He said he'd be home soon
Kids have got to get from here to there
Traffic's bad, she's tearing out her hair
She can't even think, it can't be true
He said he'd be home soon
She could tell you a thing or two
There was nothing he couldn't do
Looking at his stuff up on the shelf
She knows someone said that time would help
But she can't even think, she's still confused
He said he'd be home soon
That's all folks!
