99.9(99) percent of such downloads are music that's already been
published on a major label. If I had stuff published on a major label
I might worry about this. I'd also be able to afford separate
computers, one for online use and one for music recording. Heck, I can
afford that now.

Why steal mp3's from musicians' hard drives when you can steal such
songs from soundclick, garageband and such? Why even do this when you
can go on a P2P net and download the POPULAR music they play on the
radio, as do the overwhelming majority of people who do "illegal
downloading?"

It would be much more profitable for someone who 'cracks' a system
to look for files containing passwords, credit card info, bank account
numbers, just about ANYTHING other than original music files. It's
probably a small minority in this newsgroup who are making any money
from their music, and that's surely with a lot of marketing effort.

The real money in having zombies is in using them to do DDOS
attacks against high-dollar-volume websites (such as gambling sites)
and doing a shakedown thing, getting them to pay you a few thousand
dollars not do it again.
Another danger of having a hacked system on DSL is the cracker
using it to host kiddie pron.

The danger of having my music stolen (both the chances of it
happening and the possible consequences) is off the bottom of the list
of things I've ever worried about.

In short, this pos(t)er is blowing smoke.
