That's a tif file - 24 pages?
Rich, you doubt that anyone can always be available on the phone. It can
happen, and it surprises people. I publish three photo mags and have
about 10,000 readers out there who have my phone number. It's direct, no
secretary - yes, I work from home, but I have no need to do otherwise
today (I also live in Scotland, which again, today's technology has made
even easier to do).
Fact is very, very few people even if they are offered a phone advice
service will take it up. I get two or three bl8idy n8isances who natter
on for hours, and a few email menaces, plus 9,990 folk who happily get
the mags by post, read them and pay the money.
I imagine Dec works on the same principle. It's also used in
correspondence courses - the tutor is paid X per signup. If all the
signups actually did more than the first two lessons, the tutor would be
unable to find time to do the work. But 90 per cent of the people who
pay for such courses do one lesson and that's it. Only a tiny number get
what they paid for, and do the whole course in the recommended minimum
time. They are in effect highly subsidised, by all the others.
My view of Dec is simple (I've seen his package, and I don't mean that
one either). What he offers is no doubt culled from countless sources
but it's not a bad overall resource. His experience is no doubt hyped up
but certainly no worse than the experience of many people an aspiring
artist/writer might turn to. I bet that 90 per cent of his takers don't
use what he has to offer, whatever it's worth; I also bet that 10 per
cent or fewer, who probably constitute the bane of his waking hours, get
far more than they have really paid for by plaguing him constantly with
calls, demos, demands for assistance etc.

I was wondering if your support for Cluskey was because you are in the
same line of business. Does this mean you supported Robert Maxwell and
steer clear of ocean going boats? Do doctors support Harold Shipman?...
But the truth was in Cluskey's response to your post, even though you
supported him, he came back and had a go at you, with statements that have
no basis in reality save, perhaps, in Cluskey's own head. Think about it!
On Wednesday I had a long telephone conversation with somebody who Cluskey
calls a "member" in his advertising blurb, but ... Cluskey will probably
be getting a solicitor's letter in the coming days.
The "package" you have seen wasn't written by Cluskey.
If you want more details please feel free to e-mail me - within reason I
am happy to show you some private e-mails and let you do the same footwork
as I have done.
