glad to hear you're glad! I take it, the mike has a samll pack you have to
carry around. I think that was the one I first looked at. I must admit the
ability to change frequency is great though. My mike is fine but getting rid
of the squelch is a bit of a problem and need to work on it. The book says
it's easy with a small screw driver but it still likes to squelch.

Well I went to the sound shop in Bradford where I spoke with their sound
expert, after a quick demo and a few reassuring nods from the other
engineers I was offered a replacement unit. I had already sent a soundbite
to the manufacturers service department and they diagnosed a radio fault,
As
the supplier didn't have a like for like replacement the manufacturers
offered to upgrade me foc to the 2000 series

The sound is everything you would expect from a condenser, very punchy and
bright which is a bonus as naturally the YBS62 with Yamaha mpc and my
embouchure has a very warm mellow sound, excellent for Sax quartet work
but
the tone really benefits from the crisper sound and response of the
Pro35cw
condenser over the SM57 and I can move around!!! The Clip is fantastic and
they sell them separately for around £25 which may be of use to anyone
wanting a spare.

assumed that as the other guys were on E1 & E2 that I would be ok on E3
but
that would only work if I had the same system Samson. I used channel 10 on
mine and kept clear of theirs. I didn't know that wireless systems can
suffer from interference caused by Harmonics of the fundamental freq

I have just recieved the Audiotechnica ATW701F/G with the Pro 35xcW
cardiod
condenser mic. - UHF 8channel F Band

Reasons for my final choice are
1.I "play around" so was concerned that I may be limited by just one
frequency when I dep with other players - guitarists often are wireless.
2. some venues may not suit certain chanels, I noticed that channel 7 is
picking up something even here where I Live.

3. This setup lets me use it with my Guitar and windsynth with just a
cable
switch,

4. I liked the fast change of the clip as I play Sop Tenor and Bari
during
the evening. I don't mind the belt pack as to me it leaves just the
relatively light weight mic which is easily supported by the very sturdy
clip.

I have been having a play but I think there is something wrong as I am
unable to get a clear sound out of it. I am quite technical so I have
made
all the logical adjustments as to relative gains on receiver transmitter
and
PA amplifier and even tried a few illogical settings to try to obtain a
clear tone. I am in discussion with the supplier and the manufacturer who
both assure me that I should be able to achieve a clear tone as I do on
my
current SM57. They have offered to send another system if necessary to
get
me up and running as fast as possible so I am confident I will get a
result.
I am going up that way soon so I will arrange to drop in the shop and
let
them see first hand what I am describing. I expect the different tone
that
a
condenser will give as I used to use a hard wired one years ago but I am
fairly confident that we can eq the sound I want.

To descibe the noise that I am getting, it is very similar to a wind
noise
that you would experiense if you blew gently over a standard mic. The
sound
of the intsrument is clear enough but the note is supported by this
irritating white noise.

I will update you when I have more information.

A licence is not required for wireless microphones on VHF frequencies

173.800 MHz to 175.000 MHz


Wireless microphones on ALL other frequencies must be licensed from
as

JFMG are the administrators of the license fees for Ofcom. There
website
gives all the relevant data and links to Ofcom It's worth a read if
you
are
a data head like me.

The section above was a quote straight from the website so I am not
sure
what they mean either I assumed that there are certain frequencies
set
aside
for this type of equipment and the frequencies that they supply do
not
fall
into the UK band.

I played again last Teusday in Lincoln's Chicago Rock Cafe and to be
honest
I realised just how much I use the proximity effect so I think for
now
I
am
going to stick with The SM57. I may at some stage borrow one to try
it
and
see if it's worth the adjustment.

As I mentioned my sax teacher has one and when he plays he moves
around
loads. In fact when he played at our local shopping centre last
Christmas
he
went up one escalator and down the other (I have photographic
evidence
of
this!). The out stretched length of it is only about 8" in total
and
when
curled into the bell is even more compact and amazingly light.
Swapping
from
sax to sax is really easy. The ROAM version I commented on last
time
has
a
stronger clip with a screw to tighten down but as I mentioned
before
when
I
saw it looked way too bulky for what I wanted so went for the
normal
airline
instead. It's a little heavier too hence the bigger clip. I don't
know
what
you mean about licensing in Britain. I asked in the shop whether
it
would
need a licence and I was told no. That's good enough for me.

Mine is due for delivery on Thursday fingers crossed.
