so would you say that I need to find someone that specifically teaches
keyboard rather than piano?

Basics can easily be learned from online sites or books. But you will
come to a point where you will cease progress and you will need the
help of a teacher. However if you are playing a keyboard (probably
61keys) rather than a piano, different techniques are required.
I say this as a part-tme teacher providing both styles. I learned as
youngster how to play the piano 'properly' but I then met an organist
who opened up a whole new world when he introduced me to chord symbols
and how adapt them to my own style and needs. I now play & teach-
classical music and keyboards in a rock band.
Basically online and books will get you so far but then I would advise
a teacher for advancement - but get the right teacher for your needs.
