So I just bought a Roland SPD-S sampling pad for $300 on craigslist and
added it to my kit for live performance. Since I'm playing this Beatles gig
I thought it would be good for hand claps, tambourine, shaker, tabla, and
whatever I don't have enough limbs to play.
I'm doing a similar thing -- very excited about what I'll be able to
do, once the darn thing gets across the ocean...
Are these sounds available somewhere or will I have to try to recreate them
myself?
Rip the tune to a .wav from the CD in iTunes. (free)
Cut up the .wav into the section that you want using Audacity (free).
Copy the files onto a CompactFlash card (you'll need a card reader if
you don't have one)
Import the files into the SPD.
Easy-peasy! =)
And how do I amplify it - just hook it up to an amp, or the PA?
Possibly both, depending on your monitoring situation. You'll want
the audience to be able to hear it (PA), but you'll also need a way
for yourself to hear it clearly. You can use a small amplifier on
stage as your own monitor, or you can feed it into a regular drum
monitor / in-ears, depending on your set up.
