Re: Speaking of drum sound

I keep checking, Lee, I am going to ask Mark to come and play in MI,
personally. :-)

Although I'm not much of a country music fan, I am a Lee Kelly fan, so
I've been hoping Mark Chesnutt would somehow get booked somewhere near
Chicago (not exactly the country music capitol).

I'd heard Lee play with his local band in Nashville. He's got a great,
solid sound and manages to make even a short, simple drum break really
stand out.

As luck would have it, Chesnutt had a gig this past Saturday, in
Effingham (pronounced "I'm fine with bacon and sausage, but I don't want
no Effingham!"). It's not exactly near Chi-town - it's about two and a
half hours or so south of where I live (which is south of Chi-Town).

My wife and I booked a room to spend the night, and made the trip down.
Although she is less of a country fan than I, we both very much enjoyed
the concert. We even got into a few of the songs quite a bit more than we
would probably admit publicly. :-)

The band is obviously having a good time, the crowd really gets into the
whole gig, and Lee has one of the most killer live drum sounds. Mark has
him behind plexi, which I feel seems to really take him apart from the
rest of the show - but I can't argue with success, and Lee filled the
room with a solid beat.

Of course, the highlight of the trip was just getting to spend a bit of
time hanging with Lee. If you've never met him in person, he's one of
those types that you have a very hard time doing anything other than
laughing and being in a good mood around. I don't think I could imagine
what he'd look like not smiling.

Chesnutt has a pretty full tour schedule, so there's a good chance he'll
be playing somewhere near you. If so, take the time to go check out the
show, and say hi to Lee. You'll have a good time.

Oh yeah... one other important thing....

Lee used to be one of the "young guys" on RMMP. As of Friday night, he
has officially crossed over to the other side by turning 40!
