Keith rarely used the hi hat. He usually played steady 8ths or slower 16ths
on the double bass drums constantly, with a steady wash of crash and ride
cymbals. He DID use a hi hat for the Quadrophenia tour (might have been
closed), and maybe for some of Tommy, but for the most part there was no hi
hat set. He did record with one a lot, but did not usually tour with one. I
think Baby Dodds thought the hi hat was useless too, and prefered to play
time on the cymbal, woodblock/bell etc.

So I was watching The Who Isle of Wight DVD and I'm digging it -- then
I noticed that Keith Moon had no hi-hats. Looks like he had an 18"
crash where the hi-hats would normally be, and you know what -- he
sounded great.
Is this something he did all the time? Or did they forget to bring
the hi-hats that morning (they went on at 2:00 AM).
