Re: Who was the idiot?

If you ask your kid what story to read they will always ask for the same
one.
If you say , hey I have a new really good story the ears perk up. We are
a new story.
Great hit songs but not what everyone else is doing.

I never said you HAVE to play Mustang Sally. What I did say is that if
that's what they ask for, and you know the tune why not play it? It is
about THEM after all. You are there to make THEM happy. You seem to be
under the mistaken belief that they are there to see you. Wrong! They
are
there to have a good time. They don't give a rats ass about you. They'd
be
just as happy with the other band that does play Mustang Sally.

I totally agree with your point, but I am left to wonder what crowd ever
requests the band play Mustang Sally. Talking to "the crowd" every
Friday
night, I always ask a number of them how they like the band. I don't
keep
track, but I honestly believe the number one answer falls along the
lines of
"Different band. Different people. Same old *** as every other week."

I certainly wouldn't be foolish enough to say there would be no one who
would ever request a band play Mustang Sally, but, rather than specific
songs, I think the crowd is only interested in hearing music they know
and
can relate to. I don't think that requires any band to play any specific
song(s), but rather, appropriate songs from eras which match the age
group
of the crowd. A bunch of 40 somethings will probably say the band
'sucks',
no matter how well the can do Head Up by DefTones. Likewise, a 20
something
crowd probably wouldn't care that your band can flawlessly do Reelin' in
the
Years.

Call me an *** if you like. At least I'm not stuck in a dank office
cubicle somewhere waiting for Saturday night to come along so I can be
a
star.

I certainly wouldn't call you an *** for your opinions expressed
here,
although you do seem a tad harsh, maybe defensive. I don't know that
being
stuck in a dark, smokey bar every night, especially Friday and Saturday
night, behind a kit, is significantly different than being stuck in a
cubicle. I've done the 'stuck in a bar' thing, but not eh 'stuck in a
cubicle', and I don't think either is all that great if it is merely a
means
to an end (a paycheck).

For me, and certainly not everyone is like me, I would never do anything
I
enjoy as a way to make a living. When I would come upon a day (or night)
where I have to do it, but don't want to, then it becomes a chore and I
would no longer enjoy it. I like being a musician, I like cars, I like
computers. I've had a lot of jobs that are related to this pleasures,
but
they're far enough removed to never threaten them.

That's just me.

Since you offered that I could call you an *** for your opinions, I
only
feel it fair to extend the same offer to you. Feel free to call me an
*** for the opinions I've expressed here. :-)

Hey ***, where do you get off expressing opinions that make
perfectly good sense? ;-)
