Thanks all for the info. I read up on the new dual slot
cards or whatever they are called a few months ago, and
DX10, etc. The article I read sounded like these things are
very bleeding edge. In fact at the time I think there was
only 1 or 2 DX10 motherboards on the market. I may be wrong
about that but in general it gave the impression that this
is something that I'm not ready for.
Also, hard to believe that the game makers would release
something that can only be played "decently" on hardware
that hardly anyone has yet.

Hard to believe? It has been what has driven the PC market for decades.
Games have typically been the number one motivation for upgrading hardware.
Hardware advancements have been the number one motivation for coming up with
games that take advantage of these improvements.

If it weren't for games and porn, no one would likely have any idea what a
PC is.

Yes, games drive hardware. What I'm saying is, for instance,
is that I don't think you MUST have a DX10 capable video
card to play some of the latest games or even some that will
be coming out shortly. Just because the game takes advantage
of the power of a DX10 card does not mean it is won't play
decently without one. I have reached the point only in the
last year or so that my 3 year old machine will not play
some of the new games.
