Hmmmm...under what circumstances would developing, say, alternate energy
sources, greater food production and more efficient transportation be
wrong?

Well, nuclear power was an alternate energy source not all that long ago.
From that, we developed the issue of how to get rid of the nuclear waste
these plants generated.

You only ever know what you know based on whatever information is currently
available. You might create a new energy source, a new method to increase
food production, a more efficient means of transportation... only later,
maybe years or decades later, to discover unintended side effects, or even a
single unintended side effect. It could be something as 'minor' as nuclear
waste, or, it could be something that causes some long lasting, disastrous
effect.

In the case of global warming, I am only suggesting that, based on what we
know right now, we may decide on some plan of action which, in the long
term, actually creates some worse condition - on for which there is no
'fix'. ... and, at that, I am only suggesting it is one possible outcome
that needs to be considered, as is true of all potential outcomes, until it
can be ruled out.
