Scrap Metal show-Nashville tonight

Kelly Keagy (Nightranger) has become a close buddy in the last few months and
called me this week to let me know about a show he's doing in town with a new
project he's involved in called Scrap Metal. It's an all star band of guys
from a bunch of 70's-80's rock bands and I just got in from the show.

What a TOTAL blast! The band consisted of Kelly on drums, Matthew and
Gunnar Nelson on guitar and bass, Mark Slaughter on guitar and a few local
guys as well as a long list of guests.....

Sitting in and playing a bunch of their hits were Artimus Pyle from Lynyrd
Skynyrd, C.J. Snare and Perry Richardson from Firehouse, Jim Peterik from
Survivor, one of the guys from Tommy Tutone who co-wrote 867-5309 (Jenny)
whose name I can't remember, and Eric Martin from Mr. Big.

One of the most surreal moments came when I was in the dressing room with
Kelly and Eric Martin came in. Kelly introduced me as Charlie Daniels'
drummer and Eric got all wide eyed and said, "Wow! What an honor! My
cousin is a HUGE Charlie Daniels fan and I don't normally ever do this but
could you sign an autograph for me to give to him?" I was astounded! I
told him that *I* should be the guy asking for autographs! Too much!
He's a super nice guy and he just sings his happy ASS off! What a voice!
We're gonna try to connect this summer when I get out to the west coast on
our tour.

It was good to see Artimus again and we had a few minutes to catch up on all
the old southern rock guys still out doing it. He's always a gentleman and
always has a great old Ronnie Van Zant/ Skynyrd story to tell.

I'd LOVE to have a TENTH of what Jim Peterik has made off all the stuff he's
written. He wrote a pile of .38 Special's hits as well as "Eye Of The
Tiger" and a bunch more with Survivor. They played "Hold On Loosely' and
"Eye of The Tiger". The guy from Tommy Tutone did "867-5309". Eric got up
and sang a bunch of Mr. Big tunes including "To Be With You", Kelly did
Nightranger's big hits like "Sister Christian" and "Don't Tell Me You Love
Me", Mark Slaughter did "Fly To The Angels" and "Up All Night" and STILL
sings as killer as he ever did. C.J. and Perry did "Don't Treat Me Bad" and
"Love Of A Lifetime". (Interestingly, Perry now plays bass with Craig
Morgan who is a new Nashville country hitmaker). Matthew and Gunnar did
their Nelson hits as well as stayed onstage to play with everyone else.
Artimus didn't play drums but fronted the band and sang "Gimme Three Steps"
and "Sweet Home Alabama" and did a really good job on them.

Overall it was GREAT time and I got to go back and re-live all those songs
that I grew up playing as well as meet all the guys who played or wrote them.
Too friggin' cool!

If you hear of them coming close by and you grew up on that music like me,
don't miss it. You'll really enjoy it. I know I did......
