Wow!
JaKe
one has been removed from the library.
Has anybody here worked with Keith Brion? He's an expert on Sousa and even
dressed the part for concerts. He is VERY specific about percussion and
drums sizes to perform Sousa. He even travels with his own .38 pistols for
the Field Artillery march.

I know Mr Brion, the world authority on Mr Sousa I believe.
Sadly his "complete" Sousa for Naxos CDs (so far) is with a British
military band who wouldn't know Sousa if the old guy got up and punched
them in the face.
Happily the complete Sousa appears, mercifully, to have ground to a
halt.
I know why Naxos did not go for an American band: it would have been on
the grounds of cost but the performances so far are (I think) a
abomination.
Mr Vits: if you have a few $ to spare just buy one of those albums by
the Royal Artillery Band. It does not matter which one.
And then let us know what you think.
I will start it off: the percussion playing is truly dreadful. It has
no flair, it has no involvement.
None whatsoever.
Kind regards,
Alan M. Watkins
