Believe it or not, the music is only half the story and the recordings pale in comparison to their live performances (even from a purely musical perspective, ignoring the visual impact). You gotta see 'em.

Who the hell are these guys? I've never heard of them, but I'm digging
the samples on their website. The chick singer in Phthisis sounds really
familiar to me also... sort of like Kitty.

She has always reminded me of Bjork. I believe all of these guys have some history in CA bands. The main man Nils also does a project called Faun Fables (http://www.faunfables.net). It's kind of like wacked folk fairy tale music or something, I don't know. It's way mellower than SGM but still weird. The female singer in that band is very good.
