The group protesting at funerals is Westboro Baptist Church . They're not so much calling the soldiers killers as they are saying that god is punishing the US for being tolerant of homosexuality by killing our soldiers. The church has a homepage:

There is a group of bikers, The Patriot Guard Riders, that has been going to military funerals to block the Westboro morons from getting close enough to bother the family or other attendees.

If God hated those who practiced sexual immorality, he wouldn't have taken a prostitute as a disciple.

As a right-wing, Southern Baptist believer, do I have any credibility when I say - What a bunch of whack jobs! :-)

Seriously: another example of people with their *own* priorities attributing them to God.
