Rob's customer has already paid for a *finished* drum, so Rob's deal is no
deal at all for him. For anyone wanting to eliminate the temperamental
middle man, you can buy the raw stave shells with completed edges (they will
even drill them and add hardware for you), here:

But Rob's customer already GOT a finished drum, the one he paid for
that cracked for *unknown* reasons at this point. That's a done deal
and really doesn't pertain to this one... by Rob giving this guy a new
shell he's definitely giving the guy more than what he "already paid
for". Seeing's how the guy still has the original hardware, hoops,
etc he's real close to getting it fixed for free.

Maybe the guy wanted to drill it and finish it himself even? I'd say
this is pretty good customer service on Rob's part Dan. They'd both
eat some shipping costs that could equal the labor to drill and finish
the drum if the guy had to return it and get it fixed by Rob, so this
sounds like a pretty fair deal to me.
