Ed Zachary! The early seventies blue/olive badge Supra from my school band days always sounded SO perfect; what a wonderful drum! It was totally stock, with the original 18-strand chrome Ludwig snares and Ludwig heads, all worn through and broken in. I'm not sure it ever got any tender loving care or even a proper tuning, but it never seemed to matter. It always sounded good to me.

Agree about that "spongy sensitive snare sound from school band days". I always assumed that it was because a large center area of the ambassador batter was always worn down to the point where there was no coating left. This is the way I like my snare heads to this day.

Genera G1 coated on the top. That did it for me: thin heads. I love the
sound of this thing! The head has that groovy spongy sensitive snare sound
we had as 7th grade kids in band. I think heads have gotten thicker over the
years and the sensitivity is lost.
