Dear DD;
I did have a brief chat with Greg after my Throw went boom. He was polite/likeable/courteous; had a sense of humor about the situation, and while he didn't Apologize for the product, he didn't Defend it either. It was replaced within 1 day as I recall. Speaking of apologies, there were several individuals on the premises(inc Me, jmt) who were all over Mike Fell's case on this matter, and the fact Fact is, he was Right from the beginning with regard to the ThrowOff. I Don't think he was Right about RD's snares, but that's Individual Preference,(all drums sound different to me to some degree from daze to daze), and not worth wasting an argument over*...
KaBoom;

*Except I might feel like having a Minor Disagreement with my little buddy BennyJack as to the Auditory Merits of my nasty little Coble + Nooley AlloyClassic which,(as everyApe knows), will thoroughly disembowel a disagreeable StringPlucker at 30 Paces,(or more). I use it all time time; it has a W h a c k from Hell...

Well Mike, we all know your anti-Dunnett agenda and you are certainly welcome to your opinions. I agree that Ronn does not easily let sleeping dogs lie and sometimes that would appear to be the best route to go.
I'm also vaguely familiar with some of the background on this whole Dunnett/Nickel fiasco and it's not just about broken drum parts. If I were in Ronn's shoes I might not be as humorous about it. If a couple of pointed ads and some tongue-in-cheek eBay auctions are all Ronn does, then Greg should consider himself lucky. I think he's exposed himself to some legal hassles should someone decide to take the ball and run with it.
The link you provided explains the cloak and dagger aspect of this matter. You've mentioned that we've only heard Ronn's side of the story and in that you have a good point. Just where has Greg been during this long, drawn out affair and why hasn't he seen fit to at least address this matter? Could it be that he has no defense? Is it possible that he knows that he sold thousands of defective products to OEM's and customers and will not or can not make good on all of the bad pieces? Is it possible that Greg had been advised to keep his mouth shut so as not to complicate any possible legal actions? Would it have made things any better if Ronn decided to let things run their course without trying to force a solution?
Like I've said before, Ronn's biggest mistake was letting personal feelings weight in on business matters (and I suppose you could argue that he's still doing that). Ronn publicly defended, apologzied for and supported Greg and his defective products for a long time based on promised fixes that never seemed to come. Sure, the ads and auctions have an FU element to them but Ronn also walked the walk and put a better product on the market.
Here's what I'm wondering, like it or not we're all aware of Ronn's position on this matter, what are the other OEM's doing when a customer reports a broken Nickel? Are they replacing them and if so do they charge for the replacement? Do they refer them to Nickel? Some of the large manufacturers might be able to absorb the costs but I can't imagine that the numerous small builders can take the hit.

Not that anyone asked my opinion, and not that I want to take
Mike's
side in this, but it seems like Ronn is acting like a spurned lover in this situation. I admit, I find some humor in Ronn's eBay flavored revenge, especially since I had a negative experience with Nickel after the strainer on my Dunnett Ti broke. But this "campaign" smacks of pure,
mean-spirited
one-upsmanship. Surely, there are more effective and positive ways of advertising the new Dunnett throwoff without the passive-aggressive
smear
campaign.
He would have been better off just leaving it alone. Not Ronn's style though.
Perhaps this post will shed some light on why Ronn is so pissed. http://tinyurl.com/72wm7
Then again Chris we are only hearing one side of the story which happens to be Ronn's side. I know Ronn's character pretty well considering what depths he will go to undermine one's credibilty. You do remember his fake post about me in here a year or two ago? Perhaps he could be 100% truthful on this but, then again when there is money involved you just can never tell. Indeed money is the root of all evil.

Mike
Actually the love of money is. Though I think Eddie Money is as evil as
it
gets. And the love on Eddie Money is just sad.
LOL! Regards
Mike
