Dan,
The Adobe stuff is good, and I just brought the Sonar 4.0 Producers
Edition, which is based on Cakewalk. I think either of those is your
best bang for the buck.
I looked for a month or so before I bought Sonar--but I really only
got that over the Adobe as I already knew how to use Cakewalk. Look on
e-bay and you can find good deals, especially if you can qualify for
an academic discount, or know someone who can.
