So, I'm in need of a new amp.

After playing with a Marshall Valvestate 8080 amp for many years now,
an amp I've realized I'm not too crazy about, I think it's time to
just shed this baggage and find something that really cooks.

So, I turn to you, my fellow guitar players here on the board. I play
a lot of hard rock and blues and some clean stuff (sometimes with
chorus). I thought about picking up a Fender M-80 on eBay, but
barring that, anything that sounds killer and might even constitute a
really good bang for the buck would be ideal.

Any good recommendations that won't break the bank? Thanks very much
for the your help.

Like Squier said, get a nice sounding tube amp that you can afford. I don't
have much experience with electric guitar gear, so I won't make any specific
recommendation. However, I have a good ear for what I like after 40-odd
years of playing acoustic, and have realised that tube amps accept pedals
very well, so you can get good OD sounds at low volume using stomp boxes.

FWIW I play mostly blues, everything from clean acoustic to hard driven
electric slide, and my three amps are an Epi Valve Junior modded with a
"quiet" switch (for lounge room use), a 90s Fender Blues Deluxe and a Hughes
and Kettner Dual EL84 Statesman. The H&K has a better clean channel than the
Fender, and I could use them in tandem if I wanted a lot of volume. I was
very impressed with the Mesa Boogie Express 20 that I tried, very chimey and
full of harmonics, even on the clean channel, but the clean channel was too
noisy for my tastes.
