Trying to do some recording, using an m-audio fast track into the
computer. When I plug my speakers [Logitech] into the m-audio the
sound is fine, lotsa volume. Headphones, however, either Fostex or
Sennheiser MP3s, lack volume to the point where I struggle to hear
either the backing track or myself. The output on both the m-audio and
the volume meter is maxed.
I`ve never had this problem on analog recording devices: do I need
phones with built in amplification? Am I doing something
extraordinarily stoopit?
You probably have some system volume setting turned down. There are more than one volume meter in Windows. Most, if not all, Logitech speakers are active, so you can crank it up good even if the system volume is low. How to check your system volume levels varies with whatever OS and sound chip you're using.
I could always record without phones, but why annoy the neighbours
unnecessarily?
Because it's fun?
