Hi Larry...yes..i also think the cube 30  is underated for a jazz
amp..they really are good amps. I use mine with no mics in a trio
setting for straight ahead in philly. I also take it to all the jams
and never need more power..at a 'loud' gig i have it mabey at 2 oclock
or so...i use the jc clean channel for jazz..but with the eminence i
can now use the distortion models for rock and they no longer sound
like crap with the new speaker.

So..to ur questions  :

Three questions regarding the Eminence speaker change you're
recommending:
1) Is the speaker trade-up really that much worth it? (Like WOW?
Whodathunkit?!) The way I have it set right now, it's already a pretty
warm amp, so...   :

YES..for my guitars (i have many =- JS, L5, 175s, and thinlines) It
was absolutley DRAMATIC. No more sterile roland solid state sound. The
amp has great character now. I took a guess on the delta demon and
have considered trying something else like a ragin cajun or something.
but as is, it is the perfect small amp now. I a/b with an evans when i
bought my DAngelico and it sounded nearly the same!

2) Is the new speaker an exact match with the holes, etc.?
3) Is this a user-end swap out or would I need a pro?

As far as the install..there is nothing to it. It bolts right in...no
mods. If you never changed a speaker before let someone else do it as
u might drop a screw driver into your new cone or something. But it
goes right in. When i changed it out, i had the old stock speaker
lying around. I put it on ebay and guess what...a rep from eminence
wanted me to ship it IMMEDIATLY to him for some project. I thought it
was a scam...but he paypaled 45 bucks and 'promised' he would ship out
a brand new Cannibus Rex for another amp i got (i really am sold on
eminence speakers after this experience). Well..i figured i got way
more than this stock speaker was worth so i shipped it out...lo and
behold, a brand new C Rex was delivered a few days later!!  It was for
real. I have no idea what they wanted the junk roland speaker for, but
that may be the best ebay deal i ever made!  I have become a HUGE
eminence fan...but still willing to try some All tones or Webers.
The speaker is a MAJOR and DRAMATIC mod in some amps. I dont know what
I would put in a cube 60..but you cant go wrong with changing out the
stock one in the cube 30. I wish i didnt wait 2 years to do it, cause
i could have had a LOT more use for this small, light and great
sounding amp.
Just my experience..ur mileage may vary.

Eminence has GREAT marketing and I dont mean that in a bad way, they
simply know how to talk to musicians, and explain their products to
musicians. Example, here is one of my favorite documents on the web
on this subject:

If this guide is correct then the Lil Buddy may sound even better than
the Delta Demon in the Cube 30 for some people. The problem with the
Cube 30 that the Delta Demon mitigates by its high-end roll off, is
that helps mask the digital artifacts (fizz) that lives above 6khz
from the cube 30 modeller. According to the *** the Lil Buddy has
that same beneficial high-end roll off but a more agressive midrange
and bass. Some might want a more agressive midrange then dial down
the bass.

I like my Cube 30 too but the digital fizz cant be denied and can be
heard with headphones or if the room is dry (padded). Other than this
fact I'm happy with the Cube 30, but I will change the speaker soon
too.

As for the Jensen Neo, I put one in a stationary furniture cabinet
here (a 1950's gutted hi-fi console that my wife loves because it is
really a beautiful piece of furniture). At first the Jensen Neo was
too nasally and tweedy sounding, but after I re-tuned the bass-reflex
cabinet (used bass box pro software) by making a new baffle and adding
some wool stuffing, the nasal tone went away and now its a nice warm
hi-fi sound with stronger bass and mid-bass tones.
