Jack Wilkins was born on this date in 1944. He's been a personal favorite of
mine since I heard him on a Buddy Rich record back in the 1970's. He is one
of the best solo guitarists ever and never fails to come up with some
interesting twists and turns on familiar material. His approach is what I
like to call "orchestral" because he gives you the feeling that you are
listening to a band in miniature. If you ever get a chance to hear him play
solo you'll know what I mean.

Many happy returns, Jack. ......joe
I would like to respectfully add my best wishes to Jack Wilkins on his
birthday. His music speaks for itself--he is a master guitarist and
musician. I would also like to add that he is a great person also. A
couple of years ago I wrote to him asking a question about some music
that he had done early in his career. Since I had never met him, I
didn't really expect a response. However, he wrote back to me with a
detailed and personal response to my inquiries. I was taken aback by
the attention he gave my inquiry. He wrote as if we were old high
school friends. The fact that he took time to get back to me gave me a
very uplifting feeling--as does listening to his music and watching
his excellent videos. Thank you Mr. Wilkins for your music and for
being such a great role model for the rest of us.
