If you have the cube, do you like it? And how does it compare to
the
Clarus?

i did not receive the cube yet, it's the old orange model without all
the
digital stuff. my main amp is a mesa boogie, but i need a light amp
for
bowtie wallpaper gigs ;)

judging from the cubes i tried over the years i expect a more balanced
sound
than what the clarus/RE was offering, which basically was muddy or
very
muddy. i only play p90 equipped guitars and these need an different
kind
of
amp than a humbucker or floating PU, it seems.

Since you've already ordered it I probably shouldn't even say this, BUT
I couldn't get a sound I liked from the ES135 through my orange Cube
60.
Hopefully YMMV. I liked it fine with my Tele and my Samick 1650(?) --
or
whatever the hell it was. With my Epi 175 it sounds okay, but not as
good as my silverface Princeton Reverb. So far everything sounds good
with the PR.

i'm very curious about the princeton, it's 20w, right? did you mod it?
how
heavy is it? are the silverface ones from the 70s?

It may be only 15w. I believe the first silverfaces were late 60s, but
they're basically 70s. There is more than one model of Princeton, and
not all are equally as desirable. I'm not all that knowledgeable. Mine
is an early 70s modified Silverface Princeton Reverb that I bought from
Johnny Asia(Guitarist From The Future, Pope About Town, etc). It's had a
speaker replacement, as well as other enhancements. Here are some links
Johnny provided me with info and gear.

Here's an interesting essay on modifying low wattage Fenders.
http://www.tonequest.com/articles/article2.htm

These amps seem to still be widely available, so with a little shopping
I suspect you can find one at a reasonable price -- for much less than
the boutique amps that are based on the Fenders. I think they are
heirlooms.

thanks tom,

that tonequest link is very interesting. i think i'll try and hunt down a
princeton. i got the cube 60 today. it sounds very good with the 135 too,
but got a nasty rattle when i play the low A. speaker might be damaged.
gotta love ebay :(
