Nope, I wasn't formally documenting general observations in my last 25
years
of studying Jazz guitar. also, my memory is mediocre.
It's more than your memory. Your entire line of reasoning is ill informed
and wrong headed.
But the Horn-Guitar phrasing discrepency, and subsequent admiration of the
innate proclivities of the horn re : certain aspects of phrasing, is a
widely
recognized abstract phenomenon, even if it cannot be statistically proven.
There are indeed differences in the types of attacks, the quality of the
sustain and decay, and the types of releases that are possible from one
instrument to the next. This is not an abstraction. There are also
differences in timbre, dynamics, range, and the possibility to execute
effects like vibrato, glissando, slurs, smears, falls, etc. etc. None of
this prevents various instruments from phrasing together in the ensemble
context nor is it any reflection on the quality of the imagination or
improvisational resourcefulness of any of the various players. ...joe
