Top posting is kind of a faux pas on Usenet. It kind of messes
up the way previous posts appear and makes it difficult to see to
whom or to what you are responding. I don't have a real
newsreader and occasionally google defaults to the top, but
mostly puts me at the bottom.

Ok, I don't use Google but I can see what you are talking about. On
this it's harder to post at the bottom for the reason that I
mentioned. On this when it's at the bottom you get this endless
scrolling through the same messages all of the time, I've been
wondering why people don't just post at the top. I might start
cutting out all but the most recent message. Charlie

But this post came out nice and readable because Google compressed
all the messages that come before with a link to "show quoted text"
or something like that. So on Google at least, only your latest
message appears unless you expand the old message link.

And it's always possible to do what I did here, which is to cut out all
of the text to which I am not responding. Judicious editing of posts
can eliminate the very thing that Charlie rightly mentions. If not
done, it becomes a mess whether top posting or bottom posting. Googling
"top posting" will result in much information on the topic.

Outlook is not a very good newsreader and makes following proper posting
conventions more difficult than necessary. There are much better
options available, many of them free. http://www.newsreaders.com has
links to most of the alternatives.
