It sounds to me like Chuck Wayne did to. Listen to the way he
plays the bridge to Round Midnight, there aren't a lot of
players out here now who could pull off those fast figures with
that effortless sounding finesse. I thought that his solo was
great also both from a technical and creative perspective and
fail to see what all the criticism is about. Charlie

i agree. i can see that he is suffering from parkinson (and i know
what i'm talking about),but that was quite a moving performance.
"can't swing a simple melody"? i don't think so.

If indeed Wayne was suffering from Parkinson's at the time, his
performance is all the more so. The loss of motor speed and
dexterity, especially for hand movements, that comes with
Parkinson's is considerable.

I couldn't find any verification of him having Parkinson's in the
various online biographies I could find this morning. There are
only vague references to "health problems."

you can tell from his mask-like facial expression and his soft and
monotonous voice. there is also a slight tremor visible in the right
hand. i only watched the vid after someone mentioned parkinson's, but
it is quite obvious if you're familar with the disease and it's
symptoms.

It's subtle but I see what you're referring to. With medications the
symptoms can be suppressed to a degree, in most cases, and quite
possibly his illness was worse than is obvious in the video. He would
have timed his meds for maximum benefit during the concert. Parkinson's
tends to onset affecting one side of the body more than the other.

Hell, I wish I played as well without Parkinson's as he does with it!
