Wiring mod for Samick HJ-650 guitars (also applies to D'A DH)

I have receive a few inquiries about some past comments on the quirky
Samick wiring on the excellent HJ-650. So I am posting a description
of the conversion. If anyone wants to do this and would like a sloppy
but somewhat readable diagram, please email me.

It's actually easier than replacing a pup since it is not necessary to
solder or unsolder any ground braid. I'm mostly all thumbs, so if I
can do it, anyone can!

One clarification, I only changed the wiring on the neck pup. So in
the very rare occasions I use the bridge pup, I just leave the tone
wide open.

I start with removing the knob from the neck pup vol control. I then
tie a small copper wire around the base of the shaft. Do this
carefully--you will have to do some fishing if the wire comes off..
(you can also use a small cotton or nylon string). The purpose of this
is to pull the pot back into the hole after you're done'

Remove the nut and washer, and let the pot fall into the guitar. The
pot is within easy view and reach thru the large part of the F-hole.
It is not necessary to remove the PG. Put your finger in and pull it
out. With your soldering iron, remove the two wires on the "top" of
the pot. This is easily determined by noting that the bottom of the
pot is connected to the pot case and the braid from the pup. These two
wires (1) go to the tone control pot, and (2)the "hot" wire, that goes
to the switch and then to the output jack. Determine which is the "hot
wire" that goes to the switch by connecting the guitar to an amp and
touching each of the wires. The hot wire will buzz. (the switch will
have to be selecting the pup you're working on!). The other wire
(connection to tone pot) goes back to the "top" tab of the pot along
with the wire from the pup that you now remove from the wiper of the
pot, which is the middle tab. Connect the wire from the pup and the
tone control wire to the "top" tab of the pot. Then you connect the
remaining loose wire (which is the "hot" wire to the switch and out)
to the middle tab of the pot (the wiper). That's all there is.

(An alternate way to say this is: remove all three wires from the pot.
Determine the "hot" wire with the amp and the buzz test, and connect
it to the "wiper" or middle tab. The other two wires go to the top tab
of the pot.)

Put the pot back into the guitar and use the guide wire or string to
pull the shaft of the pot back up thru the mounting hole. Run the
washer and then the nut down the wire or string and secure the pot.
Remove the wire/string and replace the knob.

This will convert the wiring to the standard wiring, and you will love
the guitar even more!
