What are the best Jazz Guitar shops in New York City?
Thanks
Guy
Are you planning a trip, or local?
I'm in the suburbs and don't spend much time in shops (and I dont know
about what you'd consider "best"), so others are probably a better
source for that. But here are a few places to browse. They all have
websites:
Manny's, Rudy's (and Sam Ash) are all on the same block on 48th
(between 7th and 8th Ave, I think).
30th St Guitars - near Penn Station - smaller, and if I recall, more
of a solidbody place (some time ago). Interesting if you're nearby.
Matt Umanov in the Village - I've alway thought out of my price range
- known for high end, vintage (but I do see some moderate Ibanez stuff
on the website)
Mandolin Brothers - technically in NYC, but on Staten Island. I have
not been there (I mean to go!), but I understand it's vintage nirvana
- check the website.
BTW, there's also a funky, good-sized sheet music place in Times
Square (Colony music, I think - on Broadway. I dont remember the
crosstreet, but not far from 48th)
Report back!
Mike
(between 7th and 8th Ave, I think"
6th and 7th. Rudy will take care of you.
