Incidentally, you don't actually state that it isn't a waste of your

it's never a waste of time to oppose racist discourse in any form

I can see your point. My view has it that these sub-humans bark out their vile announcements and most people are appalled initially. After seeing them pop up a few times they simply do their best to avoid them. Then there are those who see them and are excited and sympathetic. These too are sub-humans and they will gravitate toward the vile in any case.

There is an argument that turning these spam posts into purported "dialogues" do nothing but keep them visible longer and serve the purpose of making them appear to be substantive debates on these topics. Which they are not, of course: they are serial monologue. So anyone responding to the spam is helping in this regard. Additionally anyone responding to an initial spam-drop exactly doubles it's potential readership by quoting the entire thing and circulating, again, to all the unrelated topics to which it is cross-posted.

How best, then, to respond to public statements of racism, anti-semitism and anti-Moslem speech? If any public response will simply draw additional attention and at least the impression of valid discourse, what to do? I'd suggest carefully checking the headers of the initial spam (unless you're using google where they intentionally make this difficult), ascertaining the server (usually identified by the "X-complaints-To" line). I've heard that google won't do anything about their anonymous posting though so in this case it might be more difficult that in others. In this case, sure enough "The Aryan Serb <nenad_the_aryan@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>" sent his stench in through google groups. So an attempt at a complaint would go to Complaints-To: groups-abuse@xxxxxxxxxxx

Back during the time that I too shrieked down a well because it was "never a waste of time" I use to send email to postmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxx in this example. But then I found a few of these vermin had set up their own systems to trap these, so I started getting threats from them until they lost interest. (Incidentally they lost interest when I stopped engaging them by responding.) The above domain, shiftmail.com links to "Disposable Email - Sharpmail.co.uk". If you want to attempt stop such spam you could email them with your complaint.

But if you just have your own personal need to shout down a well, I truly do sympathize; in the past I've done it many times myself. I may be doing it right now.
