there are 16 inputs so you can do you own personal headphone mix. A

If you are used to recording on headphones in a studio setting then
you will get used to the system quickly. A lot of guys bring in their
own preamps and/or pedal boards which we run directly into the board
thru a direct box in stereo.
I'll be getting an aviom system for my studio's monitoing in the next
month or so.

Hi ,Actually the way the system should work is that your gtr + efx / pedals go thru direct box (s) ( can be in stereo) straight into the mixing board . from there there should be direct outs that go straight into the Aviom master control. The headphone monitor units are then placed on stage. The whole system is connected via cat 5 cable so there is little loss. You actually control your own indiviual mix , blending in the drums , bass , keys, vocals etc into your cans.
You are correct , you dont have control as to what goes out to the
audience. however the upside is that it is a lot easier to mix for the
front of house with no / or little actual stage sound present,
although you milage will vary. NYU is a good school, but the bottom
line is how much actual experience the mixer has and how are they
actually hearing the audio balance.
Look at getting your own set of headphones / ear monitors. Regardless
you want to hear the Aviom mix and not the on stage mix so the
headphones should be the closed type or in the ear type , make sure
that the units are efficient so they can be turned up without
distortion etc.

It's like playing in a studio- you don't know how the stuff sounds to
the audience, because the sound person is setting all the levels.
She tells us she went to NYU to study sound...
I'm connecting my effects boxes directly from my guitar into the Aviom
box we each plug into. Is that what you mean when you said you plugged
the pedal boards directly into the board through a direct box?
What's nice about using the system for heavily notated shows is that
the musical director can speak to us through the headphones for
rubatos and ritards without the audience hearing him.
He also tells us jokes in the middle of a number, which is a pretty
