hello all,
i'm coming to this dialogue late, but from another thread that was
discussing joe pass as a teacher. i am a student of jimmy bruno on
his new guitar institute online and we were discussing his ability to
inspire and motivate in the other forum. i think that you can become
a better student when you have the proper guidance from your
instructor. if they are passionate and know your goals and help you
set them--so you're not shooting at the moon when you just can't get
there from here....or you are more talented than you think so need to
set your goals higher. jimmy is a great teacher and i highly
recommend trying his institute. you can "be" whatever kind of learner
you need to be, but you will be brought into line on what is
important, by Jimmy himself, but only if you participate. you can
watch all of his video lessons, but if you don't participate by
sending him a video of you practicing, you won't get the feedback from
him. It's all about being a good student. It's participation and
willingness, ambition and desire. The teacher will take you as far as
you want to go, but not until you show you are willing to work hard
and keep yourself open to critique.
