Hi,
I looking for some thoughts and/or approaches to soloing on the tune
Four.
Thanks in advance,
Lawrie
Don't play the real book changes. Also think F minor instead of Ab maj

What changes are you substituting and suggesting? One that first comes
to mind is instead of going from Ebma7 to Bbm7, sub with Ebm7 to Ab7
(or 13th). I see that some charts sub the Abmaj7 with Fm7 (which I
would play an Fm9 bcause of the melody line), then it goes to the Abm7
Db9.

The real book has, if I recall correctly (maybe the new one fixes it)
Ebmaj/ % / Bbm7 / Eb7 /
Abmaj / etc
What miles did was more like
Ebmaj /% / Eb min/ % /
Fmi / etc
Bars 3 and 4 give this tune a nice touch. A minor chord moving up a minor
3rd, (and then again when you move to Abmi) whereas the RB has a hokey
II-V -I into Ab maj, which completely loses this change.
