It seems that other really easy way of trying ubuntu (I've not tried it) it's with Wibi:
http://cutlersoftware.com/ubuntusetup/wubi/en-US/index.html
It installs all ubuntu SO in a file in the windows file system like any other windows application and add an entry to the boot menu to run this SO.
You can play with it much better than with the live CD, without making partitions neither risking your data. If you get used to it you can try a more definitive installation... or not :-).

Anyone using Ubuntu or other flavor of Linux instead of Windows or.
Mac? If so, what are your experiences with it? What music software
are you using like sequencers, notation programs, etc.?
I just received a free CD (www.ubuntu.com) with Ubuntu Linux on it,
and I ran it as a "live CD" on my Windows PC, which means that I
booted the computer from the CD drive into Linux, so that Windows was
not running, but Linux does not "install", it just runs from the CD
drive. Right away, without doing anything, I connected to the
Internet via Firefox, created and saved a Word format document (which
I was able to open in Microsoft Word later), and played some games.
It worked like a charm. I'm no computer geek, so if I can get this
running then maybe its time has come.
