Thanks for the thread and I'm glad you like the DVD. Every time I play
with Vic, it's a thrill. The night of that filming was no exception. I
feel honored to even stand next to Vic on the stage when I get the
chance, let alone play. He's truly one of the greats and is a
gentleman's gentleman. I've learned a lot from him. Playing with Tim
Horner on drums and Bill Moring on bass was a great also. A lot of
players ask me how I keep the playing up and it's pretty
simple...practice. My Mel Bay gig is very cool (very busy). I get to
help develop a lot of book projects with some of the world's greatest
players and produce instructional and performance DVDs (which I'm glad
many of you enjoy). I also spend about 5 months out of the year on the
road doing gigs and clinics etc. etc. There's about 20 other things I
do, but they're pretty boring so I won't get into it here. But the main
thing is I'm constantly learning from everyone I work with. Very lucky
position, eh. I go home and practice after the kids go to bed and
practice in hotels...a lot. I think the main thing for me is just
playing with guys that are better than me all the time. Anyway, that
answers Morey's question of how I keep my chops up (for anyone who
thinks I have chops.) Again, I'm glad you guys are checking out the
DVDs. We're having fun putting the CDs and DVDs out.

I've just finished watching Corey's new performance DVD with Vic Juris on
Mel Bay Records and it comes highly recommended. Corey's a really nice
player and doesn't get a lot of attention when we all discuss current
young
players but he's well deserving of wider recognition - I'm not sure how
he
can keep his chops up with what seems like a pretty time consuming gig at
Mel Bay as senior editor but he sounds really good with Vic Juris on this
DVD recorded at the Smithsonian Jazz Cafe. Vic's always been a favorite
of
mine, to me he's one of the founding fathers of modern jazz guitar
playing
(along with Mick Goodrick) which has brought along guys like Rosenwinkel,
Muthspiel, etc. Check it out.
